Indie Record Label SDR
You may be asking yourself, what are
indie
record labels? Indie record labels are
independent record labels which have no ties to large corporate recording
ventures like the five largest corporations called the big five. Large
corporations dominated the music industry until the mid 80's when rock or
independent record labels began to become serious players in the record
industry.
They are more in touch with the artists they serve as
well as the listeners which support them with great enthusiasm. Because they are
more flexible and daring than large corporations indie record labels are able to
make albums that would never be made by corporate record labels. Another
advantage to signing with an indie rock record label like SDR is that they are able to promote
and develop bands in their early stages allowing them to gain success in smaller
and more commercially viable markets. Corporate labels will not develop acts as
a rule preferring to sign "successful" bands with a "proven" track record.
Since most bands record on a smaller budget the
artist in not stuck with huge studio bills and producers fees allowing the band
to see a profit long before a corporate produced record. Most artists who sign
with one of the big five never see any royalties from an album even if they sell
a million records because of these high fees. Plus long delays between albums
mean indie record labels usually can put out two or three albums by an artist
before one of the big five can even release one. That's if they even
decide to release it. Many big five companies will often buy up albums and then
refuse to release them for one reason or
another.
